REGISTRATION PROCESS: The proper COVID-19 safety protocols will be followed for all schools when parents enter the building to submit the necessary documentation. All pupils registering for the first time are required to provide a birth certificate and vaccination records to the school the child will be attending. Parents will be asked to fill out forms which will allow the school to apply for the certificate of eligibility for English schooling. Under the Charter of the French Language, a certificate of eligibility is generally granted to children who did the majority of their elementary or secondary studies in English in Canada; whose mother or father did the majority of his/her elementary studies in English in Canada or whose brother or sister did the majority of his/her elementary or secondary studies in English in Canada. As a result of language legislation, this criteria excludes studies completed in the Quebec Private School system. Parents are asked to register at the EMSB elementary school nearest their residence offering the French program of their choice. For the first time in four years, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the  English Montreal School Board resumed its traditional Long Service reception to honour  employees with 25 years of service at Le Crystal in St. Laurent.   A total of 136 employees, ranging from teachers, administrators and support staff, were recognized for a quarter century of service.  This year EMSB Director General Nicholas Katalifos, honored those employees with a letter of congratulations and Monarch watches.  “For the past 25 years, your dedication to education, your diligence and your contributions to the English Montreal School Board has benefited many students and staff, " he said. Crooner and Leonardo Da Vinci Academy alum David Marino set to Lite Up The Night at school fundraiser

Not only is the 24-year-old jazz crooner a proud alum of the Riviere-des-Prairies school, his mother Angela Vitulano has taught there for over two decades. “It’s a great school and I had the best time at LDVA,” said Marino. “It’s always held a special place in my heart. The school is very important to me and my family.” David Marino Marino will be returning to sing at the school on June 2 as part of a school fundraiser, billed as Leonardo Da Vinci Academy Lites Up the Night for the Neuro. EMSB very pleased with partial stay on Bill 96

Montréal, April  18,  2024 - The English Montreal School Board (EMSB) is very pleased with a Québec Superior Court decision that provides a partial stay of provisions of Bill 96 and the Charter of the French Language. This ruling also benefits other English language boards and the Quebec English School Boards Association. EMSB Chair Joe Ortona notes that the  Superior Court stayed parts of the law that would require English school boards to communicate exclusively in French when writing with key institutions of the English-speaking community, such as the Quebec English School Boards Association or the English Parents’ Committee Association of Quebec.  The EMSB had challenged the application of amendments to the Charter of the French Language adopted in 2002 that the government only brought into force in June 2023, without any consultation of the English-language community. “This is a significant win, of which the EMSB should be proud,” said Mr. Ortona. “While we offer rich programming
