Montreal, April 1, 2026 – The English Montreal School Board will mark World Autism Awareness Day (World Autism Acceptance Day) on Thursday, April 2  with a number of activities, including a book launch by one teacher. World Autism Awareness Day is an international observance dedicated to celebrating the rights, dignity, and diverse perspectives of autistic people, held every year on April 2. While originally established as “Awareness” day, the global community has shifted the focus toward “Acceptance” to move beyond simple recognition and toward genuine inclusion and appreciation. The day serves as the centerpiece of Autism Acceptance Month, providing a platform to amplify autistic voices and advocate for neuroinclusive environments in schools, workplaces, and healthcare. Instead of focusing on deficits, the observance highlights the unique strengths of the autistic community, such as analytical thinking, high attention to detail, and a deep focus on specialized interests. By Alena Hamlett February 10, 2026- On February 5  the halls of creativity stretched beyond classroom walls as students and staff from Summit School’s Challenges program took a short walk to neighboring Parkdale Elementary School in St. Laurent and straight into a morning filled with color, connection, and collaboration. Summit students, aged 16 to 21, arrived with something truly special: handcrafted plaster Valentine’s ornaments, made with care and creativity. Paired with Parkdale’s Cycle 3 classes, students teamed up to paint, decorate, and bring each ornament to life. With all paints and materials generously provided by Summit School, the activity was not only joyful but also fully accessible, allowing creativity to take center stage.
