Grammy Nominee Enthralls Rosemount High School Music students

The Arts-études students of Rosemount High School  had a special visit  on   March 24   from Grammy-nominated producer, songwriter and mixer John Nathaniel. A resident of Laval, he is well known for his blend of acoustic and electronic elements, combining live strings, movie-like arrangements and percussions in contemporary productions. Most recently he was selected by the creative team behind the global phenomenon K-Pop Demon Hunters to reinterpret Golden, the franchise’s iconic song. Number 1 on the American Billboard Hot 100 in 2025, Golden has become a global cultural phenomenon.

Choosing to entrust a new version of the song to a Quebecer is significant. It recognized Nathaniel’s talent, artistic signature, and level of credibility in the highest spheres of the international industry.  Rosemount High School is home to an Arts-études program, the first-of-its-kind amongst English high schools in Quebec. While music instruction has long been a staple at Rosemount, the introduction of this   program  has allowed for music to be incorporated throughout the school day, as opposed to strictly after-school as a 75-minute extra-curricular course. Music classes are now interspersed throughout the day, with students having as many as three for-credit music courses in a single day.

Nathaniel  began his visit with a short talk about his journey and the creative process. Staff note that  many of  the students haven’t had much exposure to audio engineering or production. Nathaniel  walked them through how a song evolves from concept to final mix.  This marked the school’s first foray intro to the world of audio recording and mixing. He also  played excerpts of some of  his  work.  There was  a Q&A and the students performed for him.

Nathaniel recently worked on Jennifer Hudson's 2025 Grammy nominated album "The Gift Of Love," as well as David Guetta featuring OneRepublic’s latest singles. He also co-produced and mixed 4x Platinum-certified Top Gun: Maverick’s soundtrack song “I Ain’t Worried” by OneRepublic, which has more than 2.1 billion streams on Spotify. John also worked on multiple titles from OneRepublic’s two latest albums “Human” and "Artificial Paradise,  that topped the digital sales charts in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and France, amongst others.

In addition  Nathaniel mixed Josh Ross and Julia Michaels single "Want This Beer,"  as well as Ross's latest single "Movin On." He is also behind the creative direction, co-writing, production and mix of Alex Sampson's retro modern songs "Pretty Baby" and "If You Were My Girl,"  which were performed at America's Got Talent 2024.

Furthermore, Nathaniel produced the songs “Top Of The World” and “Carried Away” by Shawn Mendes, featured in the movie “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile.”  He also worked on Kygo's Gold-certified single "Lose Somebody" and mixed two Gwen Stefani’s songs appearing on her “You Make It Feel Like Christmas” deluxe album. Additionally, he co-produced and mixed  “Room For You” by Madison Beer and mixed Switchfoot's singles "Native Tongue" and "Voices" from their “Native Tongue” album, which won Rock/Contemporary Album of the Year at the 50th GMA Dove Awards.

Nathaniel received eight SOCAN Awards for his #1 songs on the Top 100 radio charts, co-writing, producing and mixing all of them. He was also awarded the prestigious 2017 “SOCAN Songwriter of the Year Award.”. He was honoured in Jaxsta’s Top Producers of 2022 list, reaching number 31 on their World’s 100 most successful producers of the year selection, as well as in Jaxsta's Top Mixer of 2022, reaching number 27. In 2024, John also was honoured with a Muso.AI commemorative plaque celebrating over six billion streams on digital platforms. To this day, he has  cumulated over eight billion streams across streaming platforms.
