John F Kennedy High School’s Film Club to be showcased at Zensa Media International Film Festival

Montreal, October 7, 2026- The ninth annual Zensa Media International Film Festival will partner with John F. Kennedy High School in St. Michel on November 4 and 5 . This is all part of an expanded five-day (hybrid) event, with various screenings and related activities.

Organizers are inviting all students (and alumni who have graduated within the last three years) to submit films in a special EMSB student category just for them.  To get more information on the criteria to submit a film, one can do so directly on Zensa’s Film Freeway Film Festival page, or by e-mail zensamedia@gmail.com. The top three films will be presented in a special showcase at John F Kennedy High School on one of the two nights they serve as host.

Youngsters and adults alike who have a film, documentary, creative video, or would like to produce a film on a specific topic that is important to them, have until mid-October to submit their work for consideration. “As we receive many films, our esteemed guest judges will make decisions based on various standard criteria, and select the films for screening at our festival,” emphasize Alexandra Triantafillopoulos and Seema Arora from Zensa Media.

John F. Kennedy High School Interim Principal Laura Fiumidinisi and her staff are pleased to showcase the opportunities they provide students in producing films. It certainly makes the school unique in this regard.

Spearheaded by teacher Steve Muoio, the film club is open for all students interested in any level of filming or acting. The program provides students with the opportunity to develop skills in writing, producing, filming, and editing. In addition, those interested in careers in broadcasting, film production and journalism, gain the opportunity to participate in an activity that would develop the necessary skills needed to pursue their future goals. “We essentially provide students with the opportunity to collaborate with each other on a project and promote school spirit,” he remarked. “Our students make short films of four  to 10 minutes each year on a specific theme. The films have been presented in official competitions on the island of Montreal and in all of Quebec. We have also has won numerous awards since the club’s creation 12 years ago, particularly in the Fusion Jeunesse Film Competition.” The film club has also been part of the school’s YouTube channel where viewers can watch movies that have been made over the years.

“From scriptwriting to editing, students have gotten to work with people in the industry, university film students, and experienced staff members who teach them about the creative process and how films are made,” added Mr. Muoio. “Not only do we give the students our expertise in the field, but we also guide them on how to transmit powerful and creative messages through film.”

The Montreal Media/Public Figure Award of the Year will be presented to accomplished filmmaker/photographer Ezra Soiferman.

Education through arts is an integral part of the  Zensa Media team's mandate. Producing, screening, and creating events where people can learn something, be entertained and most importantly, feel represented. This collaboration is going to be something youngsters and adults alike can look forward to.
